ACAD 1100-028 and 029 PRE-HEALTH
These 2 sections of ACAD 1100 are 3 hour courses designed for students with career interests in the health field: medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, optometry, veterinary science, or the allied health fields such as physical and occupational therapy, cytotechnology, medical technology, cardio-respiratory care, dental hygiene, and health informatics and information management.
Students will experience traditional ACAD topics of study skills, time management, library skills, technology skills, campus/academic knowledge, and learning and personality analysis, as well as speakers and topics related to careers in healthcare. One important aspect for the semester will be a service learning project in the healthcare field.
Each of these sections of ACAD 1100 is a part of a Pre-Health Learning Community. Students will take 2 courses with the same group of students: ACAD 1100 and ENGL 1010. The ACAD sections will invite guest speakers to discuss healthcare careers, and students will complete a service learning project in a healthcare field. The English instructor will tailor the course assignments so that health care topics may be addressed.
The instructors for the ACAD sections are Patsy Krech (1100-028), Director of Undergraduate Advising for the College of Arts and Sciences (678-3374, Scates 107, firstname.lastname@example.org) and Peggy Quinn (1100-029), Consultant to the ACAD Program and Assistant Professor in the Department of Consumer Science and Education (678-3111, Manning 408C, email@example.com).
